Global Sustainability Fund

The Global Sustainability Fund is part of ASB Group Investments' Responsible Investment Policy. Responsible Investment is not taken into account for any of the other nine Investment Funds in FirstChoice KiwiSaver.

The underlying investment manager is Generation Investment Management LLP (Generation). Generation was co-founded by former US Vice President, Al Gore and former global CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, David Blood, who had a vision to position 'sustainable investing' as a mainstream investment option aiming to deliver superior investment returns over the long-term.

What is sustainable investing?

Sustainable investing is fundamentally different to ethical or socially responsible investing. Generation's investment approach is based on the idea that sustainability factors - economic, health, environment, social and governance - will ultimately drive a company's share price over the long-term. Generation invests in companies whose securities are attractively priced, with strong management teams that they believe best understand and respond to these factors and have the potential to out-perform over the long-term.

Who is this fund suitable for?

The Fund is most suited to investors:

  • seeking a high return from their investment over the long-term
  • prepared to accept significant fluctuations in returns from year to year

Investment objective

To provide investors with higher long-term capital growth.

Investment focus

Generation uses an active management style and invests in companies that demonstrate sustainable practices and policies (either directly or indirectly). The investment focus recognises that environment, social and governance factors can affect a company's ability to successfully operate over the long-term. The Global Sustainability Fund invests solely in growth assets (world shares).
